Saturday October 12, 9:30 to 1:30
Redemption Rock Parking Area
Route 140, one mile past Wachusett Mtn.
On Saturday October 12th the Tigers, Wolves and Bear Scouts will meet at the Redemption Rock parking area and hike to Crow Hill Ledge in Leominster State Forest. (Webelos Scouts have other fall activities scheduled).
Bears leader John Stazinski will give a brief talk about the historic redemption of Mary Rowlandson from the Narraganset Indians during King Phillip’s War. From there, the Pack will hike approximately 1.5 miles to Crow Hill ledge, where (if we’re lucky) the boys can watch climbing enthusiast attempt the sheer rock face.
There is a place to eat lunch at the Ledges and there are some short loop trails that lead elsewhere in the Forest. We will eat lunch at the Ledges, explore a bit, then shoot be back by 1:30 or 2:00 at the latest.
Parking is very limited at the Redemption Rock site. We will shuttle most cars to park at the lower parking lot, less than a mile away on Mile Hill Road on the way to Wachusett. Drive directly to Redemption Rock first, drop your gear and passengers (leaders will be present to watch kids), then park the car at Wachusett for pick-up at the end of the hike. We will work together to make this work.
